10 Natural Options for Whiter and Healthier Teeth

White PEARLY smile without using products full of dangerous chemicals and unknown ingredients is not a dream. There are plenty of effective, safe ways to naturally whiten teeth at home.

Baking Soda

Making a paste using a mixture of baking soda and water then brushing the teeth with it regularly can reduce the bacteria in one’s mouth. It also deals with surface stains on teeth.

Oil Pulling

It is the practice of swishing at least a tablespoon of oil like coconut oil around your mouth every morning for 10-20 minutes. The practice is supposed to cleanse your teeth and gums of bacteria, reduce plaque and brighten the teeth. Remember not to swallow the oil and spit it all out

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is known for its antibacterial properties that may help whiten your teeth. Just to be on the safe side, however, make sure to limit its use to a few times per week as overuse of vinegar can also erode the enamel on the teeth.

Turmeric

Turmeric’s tooth-whitening power is subtle, and somewhat of a mystery, but try dipping a toothbrush in 1/8 teaspoon organic turmeric, applying to your teeth and letting it sit about 3 minutes before rinsing well and brushing with your normal toothpaste. The results won’t be dramatic, but it will help.

Orange Peel

You can rub orange peel directly onto your teeth and this will help to fight tartar building microorganisms on the enamel. You can also mash up the peel (though this may take some time) and apply it to the stained areas. Leave to rest and then rinse. You should find that this noticeably whitens the teeth.

Banana Peel

Bananas are packed with nutrients, even in their peels. Banana Peel works by absorbing the bacteria and microbes on the teeth, thus making the teeth whiter.Take a ripe banana and rub the inner part of the peel on your teeth for 2 minutes. Then rinse off with water. Repeat twice a day.

Sesame Seeds

Sesame Seeds will gently remove plaque and tartar, without damaging teeth. To achieve this, just pop a handful of sesame seeds into your mouth. Chew them up, but do not swallow them. Take an old toothbrush (dry) and brush your teeth while the seeds are still in your mouth. They will act as a scrub and delicately scour the surface of stained teeth.

Sage Leaves

The sage plant has amazing properties that are great for the health of our teeth and gums.  Take a fresh leaf, wrap it around your finger and then brush your teeth and gums with the (slightly) rough side of the leaf.

Charcoal

Although it sounds backward brushing your teeth with this black powder works wonders! It’s especially good for removing stains caused by the tannins in tea, coffee and wine. This can also be combined with coconut oil and used for an extra whitening oil pull.

Strawberries

Strawberries contain an astringent which assists with the removal of surface, and vitamin C, which helps to prevent plaque from forming.Simply crush some strawberries into a paste, and then apply it with a toothbrush in the normal way. When finished, don’t forget to rinse your mouth out with water to get rid of any of the natural sugar.
